The daily Tree Quiz was a popular feature of ‘Trees Be Company’, Dorchester’s first Urban Tree Festival, and we hope you enjoy Round 2. The answers to the daily Tree Quiz can be found here.
Sunday 23rd May. The last question is probably the most difficult. What is this tree? My apologies for the poor photographs – it was blowing a bit of a hoolie at the time. The tree is in the corner of The Forum Centre in Dorchester and a planning application in 2019 asked for permission to fell this tree to facilitate access to the doorway in the brick building on the left.
Friday 21st May. As it’s Friday, the end of a busy week, we have a slightly different clue today. Can you name this tree by its shape? It is one of two planted outside Acland House on Church Street in Dorchester.
Thursday 20th May. What name have we given to this tree, flowering now in Fordington churchyard, Dorchester? It is not often seen in Dorset, so worth making a note of where you come across them on account of their amazing scent when the sun shines. There are two trees here, one on either side of the path so one can walk through an archway of fragrant flowers in this beautiful churchyard.
Wednesday 19th May. A relatively straightforward question today. What is this elegant street tree called, currently flowering on Church Road in Dorchester?
Tuesday 18th May. What is this tree called? I have not knowingly come across one of these before. It is currently in flower, and has an interesting ‘crumpled’ leaf. Described in one guide as “an abundant plant of rather endearing ugliness”.
Monday 17th May. This is a very striking tree on account of its pattern of leaves. What is it called and what is being formed at the end of some of the branches?
